Before we begin
I've been doing this work for over sixteen years, and in that time I've worked with hundreds of bodies. Here's what I've learned: the body is always a process. Always. You're being met and assisted.
Pain is often more about sensitivity than damage, and capacity and comfort can be worked with and developed. Greg Lehman describes it as an overflowing cup. Tissue load is one thing that can fill the cup, but so can stress, sleep, fear, beliefs, and the ways you cope. When the cup overflows, you feel pain, sometimes even after the original tissue issue has settled. Defenses can stick, but the nervous system can learn to turn the alarm down through graded exposure. That means carefully returning to the movements and activities that matter to you, at a level that knocks on the door without knocking it down. You don't need to be fully fixed before you start. Sometimes the doing is part of the fixing, and assistance can help with that.
Like the first weeks at a gym or your first yoga class, the early responses aren't always comfortable. You may feel sore or tender. Things you didn't expect may come up, like emotions, memories, or sensations that seem to come from nowhere. That doesn't necessarily mean something went wrong. But if something feels alarming, gets worse, or just doesn't seem right afterward, please tell me, and check with a healthcare professional.
This is bodywork and movement education, not medical treatment or diagnosis, and it doesn't replace care from your doctor or other healthcare providers.
You're here of your own accord. You chose this. And just as you could step off a curb and turn an ankle on any ordinary day, your body remains yours to manage between sessions and after them.
Edges, boundaries, and thresholds aren't obstacles to the work. They are the work. They're how your body communicates, and they mark where its capacity meets its environment.
We work with what you've got going on. I may suggest things to do, and what you do with them is up to you. Sometimes we set up commitment games for your own embodied practice (things to do, not do, or explore), but all of that is your choice.
By receiving this session, you understand that results vary, that discomfort can be part of the process, and that you're taking part as a willing adult who takes responsibility for your own body.
